Open House Strijp S
On a sunny Sunday in June me and my father where going to Strijp S(also known as “complex Strijp S”), an old factory plant in Eindhoven. My father has worked here for a couple of years and wanted to see what they have made of it now day’s. On this area Philips had factories for many years. In 1918 Philips started on this area and it went to 2010 until Philips has left this area. In 2002 where plans made to rebuild the area called Strijp S. The plans are to build a lot of apartments, shops and small businesses. There are still some old buildings left, some of them will stay and some will be broken down later.

This day there was an open house on this complex, all the small businesses that are already placed there showed what they do and what they can do for you. Also there were some tours over the complex where was told what should happen to the buildings and the area. One of the tours was to the former “NatLab”, this building is a well known building in Eindhoven. The NatLab was the building of Philips were al the inventions where done for the whole company. Some inventions are

The Philips Radio
The first Dutch Black and white TV experimental broadcast in the Netherlands. Later came the first color broadcast also from this building
The CD
Etc.

Now the building is closed and a lot of the building is broken down. The part that is still standing will be rebuild to apartments and locations for small businesses. Also there will be new buildings which belong to this building.

The rest of the complex was free for visiting, so we walked to the rest. Because my father had worked for a couple of years on this area, a part of his work was to make the evacuation plans for the buildings. This means he knows every building there and he could tell a lot of the buildings. We were visiting the building and floor he worked, this floor was unfortunately closed so we walked further to another floor. Here we seen on which way they had changed the building for the new businesses which were placed in the building now day’s.

In some buildings are already for a couple of years some well known businesses or clubs like some sport clubs and Area 51, the biggest skate ramp in the Benelux. We had never seen this clubs so we decided to visit some of these clubs. Almost all the clubs and businesses which are placed on Strijp S are temporary, in a couple of years they all have new places in other buildings so the buildings in which they are now can be renewed.

The most of the businesses that are placed on Strijp S are artist, from painters to photographers, all kinds of artist are on Strijp S. The most had also opened there studio for all people. Also they were shown their artwork. Some of the artist where working to promote technique for younger people.

When we walked back to the bicycles we found a monument for the second world war which was placed on the old complex but was replaced somewhere. Nobody could tell us were this monument was placed, now we know where. When we came home from a long day the rain which should come in the afternoon came, we were lucky that it came so late.
